Celebrate young sporting talent in the Park this weekend
Olympics venues are hosting loads of free events
There’s a jamboree of sport on our doorstep this weekend (28th - 30th June) as the London Youth Games Finals Festival marks the grand finale of the capital’s Youth Games season.
Across many of the Park’s iconic Olympic venues, your free ticket includes chances to watch the best young sports stars from across the Boroughs compete for the coveted Jubilee Trophy, discover free sports to try, explore coaching and leadership opportunities all over London and meet some top Team GB athletes, too.
Then cheer on the young athletes competing in swimming and aquathon at the London Aquatics Centre, watch volleyball, basketball and netball at the Copper Box, BMX at the Velo Park, and team clashes over at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, too.
There’s also a chance to try archery, cricket, dodgeball, dance, yoga, strength & conditioning or calisthenics at the London Marathon Community Track.
ART & CULTURE
🏨 Join Hypha Studios celebrating the opening of not one, but two new exhibition spaces at their launch event this Friday 28th June, 6-9pm, with drinks by Jim and Tonic. This venture will support the city’s leading artists with totally free exhibition space (the value of these galleries if the artists were to rent them would apparently be £200k over the year😲) and deliver events for the local communities. There will be 16 exhibitions across the two new galleries, featuring 250 exciting emerging artists, and over 60 free events and workshops - set to attract an audience of 20,000 between now and May 2025. It’s all happening at @sugarhouseisland, the new neighbourhood in Stratford that already houses creative talent such as UD Music and East London Dance.
🖼️ Talking of double gallery events, Friday also sees the launch party for In Fine Fettle, as the Fine Art course at Leeds Arts University bring a selection of graduate art, sculpture, digital and performance from 40 students as a group show. It takes place at both Indra Gallery sites: 3 Casings Way, and Algha Works in association with ArtSect.
📱 UCL Marshgate's Institute of Making are holding The Festival of Stuff on Sat 6th July. It’s a large-scale, drop-in, totally free street festival about making and materials, promising to be filled to the brim with what they call ‘delectable making madness’. Explore the science of squishing, delve into the small but mighty world of super absorbent polymers, get intimate with your iPhone's insides, play on pottery wheels and meet the Mars Rover, no less.

They are hosting a Burna Boy Yard Party all day, plus have a regular fixture of Euro 2024 screenings running at the moment, too.

🍺 Beer, sunshine and tunes should all be present as Crate Brewery presents the third installment of Day Break, their day-into-night summer series set along the banks of the canal. The next party, on 6th July, sees Carl H, Pato and Remove Me take over the brand new, custom built Core sound system on the terrace from 12pm - 9pm.

Born into a family of musicians, she studied acting in New York where she discovered her love for Jazz, appeared in Brazil’s edition of The Voice in 2018 and then moved to London. A DJ set by Mria will follow at 10pm.
👧🏽 Saturday (29th) sees the return of bonafide club legend and resident vinyl sista Marcia Carr back for her bi-monthly all-vinyl showdown Girlz Be Like at GROW, featuring women selectors. This time she’s joined 22-year-old DJ, producer, drum and bass promoter, and ‘High-Frequency Tenerife’ Record Company owner Andrea Alvarez making her London debut.
